Nature in the Eastern Frisian Sea

During your holiday your accommodation is on board the two-masted klipper de Vrijhied. The Frisian skipper, Thomas Terpstra, who is himself a real nature-lover, knows the Eastern part of the Frisian Sea like the back of his hand.

You hoist the sails and sail from Franeker, via Harlingen, to Vlieland. On the way you can enjoy the overwhelming peace of the Frisian Sea.

The next day, you can go on a cycling trip or discover the beauties of the island on foot. After that, you set course for Ameland. On the way you will see many species of birds and learn to recognise them. If the tide permits, the ship will anchor next to a sandbank and you can go for a walk over the tidal flats, led by the skipper. You spend the night in the harbour of Ameland.

The next morning, there is time to discover the island by bicycle and to have a picnic in the natural surroundings. Sometime in the afternoon, you leave the harbour. You will drop anchor, and as the tide ebbs the ship will settle on the bottom, so that there is a good chance that you can see seals at close quarters. You spend the night on the tidal mudflats.

After taking breakfast amid the unspoiled natural surroundings, you sail to Schiermonnikoog. On arriving, the skipper gives you a guided tour of the island and shows you the most beautiful places on the island. After this walk, you go back on board for a sailing trip to Terschelling. You sail through a wonderful area of natural beauty with many different species of birds.

On the last day, you hoist the sails to sail from Terschelling to Franeker.
