Alexandra

The Alexandra, a solid Southern Dutch riverclipper is one of the dozens of charterships of Hoorn. This quick sailing ship was built at the famous shipyard of Duivendijk in Lekkerkerk in 1895. Already back in 1932 the sails had to make place for an engine. Until the 70'ees the Alexandra sailed as a cargo ship and from 1975 to 1990 it was used as an houseboat.

During a sailing trip on the Alexandra it is possible to sit relaxed on the large afterdeck and enjoy the view of the horizon. This ship has a beautiful saloon and spacious twin-bedded cabins. The sails on the Alexandra are operated by hand and with the experience of the captain and his mate setting sail is an easy to do job! The crew will (with all their experience and endless passion for sailing) happily answer all your questions about navigation, sailing and knots.

In the hold the guests are welcomed in a beautiful passengeraccommodation. Furthermore, some large two-twin-bedded rooms with washbassin can be found. On the reardeck the guests can take a seat where they can enjoy the marvellous view or stear the rudder by themselves. Nothing is more beautiful then stearing such a big ship through the waves.

The skipper and his mate are wellknown on the Dutch waters, either on the IJsselmeer, Waddenzee or the Frisian lakes. They are known to be pleasant and gentile with the guests and therefore guarantee and pleasant and relaxed sailing journey. All sails are operated by hand, but the lee boards are equiped with an electric winch.

Everyone is welcome on board of this comfortable clipper to make a splendid sailing journey to the Waddenzee or to visit the very old villages at the formal Zuiderzee.

Sail with the Alexandra for one day or more and learn to appreciate the nature in her most beautiful way.
